Do the majority of Belgian citizens vote? Americans who don't even register to vote is a big sadness for me. Our voter turnout is scandalously low. Unlike some countries, such as Australia, voting is not compulsory in the States.

A bit off-topic here, but I think they should simply add an option to the ballot 'None of the above'. A lot of people want to vote, but not for any of the candidates on offer. I think you'd see an increase in voter turnout simply by adding that option.

In the UK, people intentionally 'spoil' their ballot if they don't want to vote for any of the candidates. They still get to exercise their right to vote, but can also make it clear their disillusionment with what's on offer.

Thank you for the warm welcome, and a big thank you for starting this site! I'm really excited about this…the one place I don't feel like I have to make an effort to NOT talk about the sleeping problems. I saw that you recently moved from NY to Cali to OR. How are you liking it? I also lived in NYC breifly, and go to Cali quite often because my mom lives there. I am planning on moving there when I graduate. I also thought about moving to Oregon and just went out there in October for a conference…very pretty!

I love Oregon so far. I've been to New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, Massachusetts, Nevada, Arizona, California, Alaska and now Oregon. It's my favorite state so far. It has so much to offer – an awesome coastline, wonderful mountains, beautiful forests and friendly people.

Originally after leaving Brooklyn, our goal was to move to San Francisco. However we decided that we were fed up with paying ridiculous prices for tiny apartments and that we needed a break from 'city life'. So we took the plunge and now live in a town of less than 350 people!

Where in California does your mom live?

I have a Sony eReader and love the thing. Right now I am reading Tony Blair's autobiography. As for a favorite book, I really liked 'Pillars of the Earth' by Ken Follett.

What are you reading at the moment, Aimee?

When in the shower you wash your face twice because shortly after washing it for the first time, you can't remember if you washed it.

    Hi Franky

Firstly, I am really sorry to hear about your Mom's remission. I can't even imagine what you're going through right now. Don't ever forget you've got support here whenever you need it. You've got friends here whenever you need them.

It's good to see you back and I have noticed you popping in lately. I am really curious about Lindsay's book. I'm really hoping we'll see her back around here soon.

Take care, Franky and don't be a stranger.

Thanks for introducing yourself, Courtney and welcome to Insomnia Land. It's great to have you as a member and hopefully you'll be able to offer just as much support to our other members as you get back in return.

I'm a bit of a wanderer too. I'm 30 and have lived in the UK, Australia, Canada and now in the United States!

Your story about the 'insomnia cures' sure sounds familiar. I'd say it's perhaps the biggest complaint and frustration of insomnia sufferers. In any case, you'll find plenty of people who understand what you're going through here. Enjoy yourself, and I look forward to getting to know you better.

Let me know what you think, Annelies – I recently saw the original Tron again, but haven't seen the remake yet. People are telling me it's great visually but the story isn't all that. Sounds similar to Avatar in that respect!!

Another one just popped in my head.

One day I was when I was driving to work, it took me about 20min.to realize is was driving the wrong way.

I drove to where I used to work about 2 years ago so not to my current workplace.

Of course this is totally the opposite direction then where I should have been going.

    Luckily I have flexible hours.

Be careful driving drowsy – we don't want you in any danger!

Hi Adrian. Firstly, welcome to Insomnia Land and thanks for sharing.

I think a lot of our members have different routines that they try, but I think yours may be the longest one! That being said, if you find the long and strict routine works for you, then that's a good thing.

Do you think the obsessiveness of your sleep routine is related to your insomnia? Perhaps you find it hard to switch off your brain (as evidenced by finding you're needing to do certain things and in a certain way and worry when they're not) and that's resulting in sleeping difficulties.

Have you seen a doctor about your insomnia and mentioned the sleep routine to them?
